“Do you buy records?”
…is our most frequently asked question. And yes, we do, we buy lots of them - it’s how we stock the shop. But we can’t buy everything.
The record market is interesting and fun, but can be a little baffling. Some genres have not had the resurgence in popularity as others. Some eras have not (yet) come back into fashion. So while some records – and specific pressings – sell for what may seem like ridiculously high collectors’ prices, other perfectly good ones either won’t shift, or go for mere pence.
If we bought everything we are offered we would need premises five times the size and most of the space would be taken up with records which won’t sell.
For this reason, if you have a collection to sell, we are definitely interested in hearing from you, but it is best not to just bring it all into the store without talking to us first. And before calling or emailing, it would be really great if you could either make a list of the titles (or at least some of the best ones) or take a few photos showing the kind of stuff in the collection (attach these to your email).
On that note, we do prefer to buy decent size collections, rather than individual records, or just a handful, as it makes for a better overall deal for everyone involved. (If you have just one or two, then selling them yourself online would bring you more money.)
If you have a collection to sell that we think might be good for the shop, we’ll either invite you in with it or, for large, very interesting collections, we can potentially visit you to take a look.
As a very rough guide, when we buy records we work out how much we think they could sell for, and offer the seller a third of that price - that’s a pretty standard deal for this sort of thing.
